Meet the Psychotherapist

Alexander Robertson is a UKCP and BACP registered Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, working in South East London with Therapeutic Consultants in Crystal Palace and in private practice in Nunhead. He has extensive experience supporting children, adolescents, and families, with much of his work developed within both primary and secondary school settings.

Alexander began his professional life as an actor, training at RADA where he received a BA in Acting. Following a successful career in theatre, television, and film, he became increasingly interested in the deeper human processes behind expression, connection, and emotional truth. This led him to recognise the powerful role that creativity and the arts can play in supporting emotional wellbeing, particularly for children and young people.

He went on to complete an MA in Integrative Child Psychotherapy at the Institute for Arts in Therapy & Education (University of East London). His background in the performing and visual arts continues to inform his therapeutic practice, underpinning a sensitivity to non-verbal expression and the many ways feelings can be communicated beyond words.

Alexander’s work is grounded in the understanding that children and young people often express themselves through behaviour rather than language. He holds a trauma-informed perspective, recognising that behind behaviours—whether loud, withdrawn, or hard to understand—there is often an unmet need for safety, connection, understanding, or reassurance.

“In my practice, I have come to understand that behaviour is often a child’s most honest form of communication. Behind every outburst, silence, or struggle lies a deeper need. My role is to look beyond the behaviour, to listen with curiosity rather than judgement, and to support young people and their families in feeling truly heard.”

Being a parent of young children myself, I have come to realise that patience is definitely one of my qualities.

Studio OLLO

The Nunhead Therapist is based at Studio OLLO—an independent, purposefully designed studio situated at the end of a small, welcoming family garden in a Victorian terraced home in Nunhead.

The space has been thoughtfully arranged for integrative child and adolescent psychotherapy. It offers a calm, safe, and inviting environment, equipped with a wide range of creative and therapeutic materials including toys, puppets, figurines, art supplies, and sensory resources. These provide children and young people with multiple ways to explore and express their thoughts and feelings. At the rear of the studio, there is also a compact restroom with a sink.

Access to the studio is via a friendly blue gate directly from the road, offering a sense of privacy and ease on arrival. While there is no designated waiting room, Nunhead is a vibrant and welcoming community, with parks, cafés, and local shops all within a short walk—making it easy for parents and carers to spend time nearby during sessions.

There is free parking available on surrounding streets, including directly outside the studio.
